Last month we moved into a new apartment. I love it a lot, except, no closets. So I built a hanging one! After some very pinteresting aesthetic exploration & research, I was thinking of doing a copper pipe with some nice rope. However, when I went to the hardware store down the street, the woman working totally had my back, understood the core of my being, and advised me on the strongest and cheapest materials: black pipe and some metal wire. In the name of frugality, I let go of my copper pipe dreams and I'm so happy with the result.
I'm a little bit terrified that it's going to cave in and kill everyone, but I anchored it properly so apparently it should be ok!
Here are my materials (+ tea):
I anchored some hooks, and then used a mechanism that came with the wire to fasten it. I can't remember what it's called but it looks totally legit.
First hanger + it hasn't collapsed yet: check!
And then I filled it with clothes
My bedroom isn't big enough to get a very good full shot... but trust me, it looks very cool. And here's the rest of the bedroom:
Nothing says "nesting" like an adult mobile and a nicely made bed, amirite?
Ugh, calm but silly bedrooms 4 life!
In conclusion: the hanging closet has been up for about a month now, and there's something so nice about everything being right in front of you. Having no closet eliminates having a closet door which eliminates an entire step (opening a door) to putting clothes away, and I swear it makes a difference. Plus, we got one of those couches where the chaise lifts up and you can store stuff inside the couch, so that's where we throw our shit now. Problem solved.
